Parents Resources

Supporting Your Child

This page brings together a small selection of guidance for parents who want to help confidently and calmly, without feeling like they need to be teachers themselves.

These resources are designed to make maths feel manageable and explain common methods used in schools today. They introduce concepts step-by-step and show approaches that build understanding, not memorisation. You can use them to understand what your child is learning, recap key ideas, or sit alongside them as they practice.

Resources available on this page:

  • Every Parent is a Teacher — a short presentation for parents supporting primary-age children with maths at home.
  • Maths Workshop Booklet — a practical guide to early number concepts, addition, subtraction, and key written methods (including number lines and column methods).

No prior maths knowledge is expected, and you do not need to teach new content: just being willing to talk through ideas slowly can make a big difference. If you are unsure where to start, begin with the presentation and then move to the booklet when you’re ready.
